i'm james haines kang, a software engineer based in oregon.
i've been learning to code since i first took an introductory course in high school writing PASCAL, >16 years ago. after that, i started to teach myself python and java, writing cipher scripts and Minecraft mods.
today, i've worked as a software engineer professionally for 10 years. i've worked on a broad range of projects, from legacy web applications written in ColdFusion, to high throughput/low latency caching services written in C++; at companies ranging from 10's of employees to 10's of thousands of employees.
while my professional focus has been on site reliability engineering and backend development, i also have a strong interest in programming languages, distributed systems, and infrastructure.
beyond the technical, i believe in empowering other engineers to be successful, through mentoring and the development of tools and processes that enable them to do their best work.
